Riding the Waves

You know I have always wanted to learn how to surf. But I didn't think that I would begin to learn it like this. I feel like my life is a constant rewind and replay of riding these waves. You have a good day, followed by a bad day, followed by a tired day, followed by a stressful day. Then you finally get life back into a routine and under "control" and then you start the cycle again.

Yesterday we went to Ky's pediatrician for her 2month check and post hospital check. We have to combine visits or I would be there everyday, sometimes two times a day!! Our appt was 8:15 am. She weighed in at 7 lb 9 oz!!!!! Which means we have gained 9 oz. in a week!!!!!!!!!!!! That is such a HUGE thing for us considering we have been struggling to just maintain weight!!! Let alone GAIN!!!!!

So we get our shots- which she did great.. and get home around 9:30 am. At 11 am I am feeding her and notice that her NG tube is backing up with YELLOW... and I mean big bird yellow gunk!!!! The day before she had thrown up this very same color stuff and it smelled bad!!! So I call the Dr. and they ask me how quickly I can get there... this is 12:15... by 12:45 we are back at the doc for the second time and they are calling the Pediatric GI at UK getting us in for an emergency Upper GI. GREAT! Just what I wanted to do with my Friday!

We meet with the GI docs and they ended up forgoing the GI thank god!!! Initially they had thought that she an obstructed bowel. But she didn't thank goodness. Turns out the girl who put Ky's NG tube in had put it in about 5 cm too far... so it had migrated down into the sphincter and was holding it open. So there was actually bile washing back up into her stomach and into the tube. As soon as the stuff started coming up I yanked the tube out. We re-measured her and put a new tube in. And all is good in our world again... just another wave!
